The First Drop: How Water Is Bringing New Hope to Rweru
Updated: 4 hours ago
For the people of Gatama Village in Rweru Sector, Bugesera District, the sound of clean water flowing for the first time was more than the opening of a tap. It was the sound of a new chapter beginning.
Yesterday on 04th October 2026, community members, local leaders, and partners gathered in Rweru to officially launch the Water Is Life Project , an initiative focused on bringing clean and accessible water closer to families and creating lasting change within the community.
A Moment Worth Celebrating

There are moments that may seem simple, but carry a meaning far greater than words can capture.
As the community gathered to witness the opening of the water supply in Batima Village, excitement filled the air. For the first time, residents could access clean water within their community, a moment that represented hope, dignity, and possibility.
For families, access to clean water is not simply about having water to drink. It can mean better health, improved hygiene, more time for children to learn, and more opportunities for families to focus on building a better future.

The Power of Partnership
The launch brought together community members, local leadership, and partners who share a commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable change.
We were honored to have the support of Thomas Kiely, Managing Director of Laraine Kiely Harrison Charity Fund, whose partnership is contributing to making this vision a reality.

The event was also attended by the leadership of Bugesera District, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between communities, local government, and development partners. This project is a reminder that lasting impact happens when people come together around a shared purpose.

The Water Is Life Project is about much more than infrastructure. It is about people.
It is about mothers and fathers having reliable access to clean water. It is about children spending less time searching for water and more time learning and playing. It is about healthier families and stronger communities. And, perhaps most importantly, it is about restoring something every community deserves: dignity.
A simple tap can represent something much bigger, the opportunity to live healthier, dream bigger, and look toward the future with greater confidence.

A New Beginning for Rweru
As the first water flowed in Batima Village, so did a renewed sense of hope.
For the community of Batima Cell, this is only the beginning. The Water Is Life Project represents a commitment to ensuring that communities have the resources they need to thrive. A tap was opened. But what truly opened was a door to health, opportunity, dignity, and hope.

Together, We Can Create Lasting Change
At Grace Girls Coalition, we believe that meaningful development starts with listening to communities and investing in what they need to build a stronger future.
The Water Is Life Project is one more step toward creating healthier, more resilient, and empowered communities. Because sometimes, changing a life begins with something as simple and as powerful as the first drop of water.
