In our previous update, “Progress in Action: Bringing Water Closer to Communities,” we shared the early strides made through the Water is Life Project in Rweru Sector, Bugesera District. What began as a vision to reduce the burden of water access for vulnerable communities is now rapidly becoming a reality.
Today, we are proud to share a new milestone: the project is now 90% complete, marking a significant step toward delivering safe and clean water to the community.
Building on Our Progress
Since our last update, construction efforts have advanced steadily. The water treatment and storage tank central to this initiative is now in its final stages. This progress reflects the shared commitment of Grace Girls Coalition (GGC), our partners, and the community we serve.
The remaining work focuses on finalizing and securing the facility to ensure long-term sustainability:
Waterproofing the inside of the tank
Conducting the first water filling trial
Painting the exterior structure
Completing the protective fence around the facility
In addition, three water collection stations have been installed to improve accessibility and reduce waiting time, ensuring that more families can benefit efficiently from this resource.

A Transformation Within Reach
For years, families in Rweru Sector have relied on unsafe water sources, often walking long distances to fetch water from the lake. This daily challenge has particularly affected women and children, limiting opportunities for education and productivity.
As we approach completion, the impact of this project is becoming clearer. Access to clean water will not only improve health outcomes but also restore time, dignity, and opportunity for the entire community.
What’s Next: The Road Ahead
Final Construction Completion — August 2026
System Testing & Validation — September 2026
Official Launch & Community Access — October 2026
Continuing the Journey
The Water is Life Project stands as a powerful example of what is possible when partnerships and purpose come together. What was once a distant goal is now almost complete, bringing us closer to a future where access to clean water is no longer a struggle, but a guarantee.
Grace Girls Coalition remains committed to expanding sustainable water solutions and reaching more communities across Bugesera District. As we move toward completion, we welcome partners and supporters who share this vision to be part of the next chapter, helping extend clean water access to even more families.

Together, we can ensure that access to clean water continues to transform lives!
