From March 16–27, Grace Girls Coalition (GGC) is hosting another transformative Girls Camp in Bugesera bringing together young girls from rural communities for two weeks of learning, healing, and personal growth. More than just a camp, this is a life-changing experience designed to restore hope, build confidence, and equip girls with the tools they need to shape their futures.

A Space to Learn, Grow, and Belong
At the heart of the Bugesera Camp is the creation of a safe and supportive environment where girls feel seen, heard, and valued. One of the most powerful activities has been the Girls Circle, a moment where participants sit together, open up about their past experiences, and begin a journey of healing. In this space, vulnerability becomes strength, and every girl is reminded that she is not alone.
Through these shared experiences, strong bonds of sisterhood are formed, connections that will continue to uplift and support them long after the camp ends.

Building Skills for the Future
The camp is also focused on practical learning and empowerment through skills development. During the Entrepreneurship classes, girls have been working on their own business ideas, developing business plans and confidently presenting them in front of their peers. These sessions are not only building business knowledge but also strengthening public speaking skills and self-belief.
In addition, Leadership classes have helped the girls understand the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support. Through interactive exercises, they’ve learned that success is not achieved alone, but together.

The Power of Mentorship
Mentorship plays a central role in the GGC Camp experience. Throughout the program, the girls have had the opportunity to learn from inspiring individuals who generously share their knowledge and journeys.
We were honored to welcome Jean Bosco Byukusenge, a former GGC trainer now working with EF, who spent time with the girls offering valuable insights and guidance. His presence was a powerful reminder that mentorship creates lasting impact beyond the classroom.
The camp also hosted Moreen Zabali and Diane Uwase, who brought incredible energy, wisdom, and encouragement. They spent meaningful time with the girls building confidence, sharing life lessons, and creating moments filled with laughter and joy. These interactions help the girls see what is possible and inspire them to dream bigger.

One of the most touching moments during the visit is that of Moreen, she showed incredible care and compassion by looking after the babies, allowing their mothers to fully focus on their lessons. Her presence reflected the true spirit of GGC supporting not just the girls’ learning, but also their realities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward growth and empowerment.

Joy, Laughter, and Unforgettable Moments
While learning and growth are at the core of the camp, there is also plenty of room for fun and joy. From group activities and shared laughter to bonding moments between sessions, the girls are experiencing a kind of happiness many of them had not felt in a long time.
These joyful moments are just as important as they create a sense of belonging, boost confidence, and remind the girls that they deserve happiness and lightness in their lives.

More Than a Camp A Beginning
The GGC Bugesera Camp is not just a two-week program, it is the beginning of a new chapter. By the end of the camp, each girl walks away with more than just knowledge. She leaves with confidence, purpose, practical skills, and a support system that will continue to guide her journey.
At Grace Girls Coalition, we believe that when a girl is empowered, she becomes a force for change, not only in her own life but in her family and community as well.
And in Bugesera, that transformation is already happening.
